00:00How did you end up in your current role?

00:06Kind of by accident. After college I spent two years in sales first.

00:15What made you switch?

00:19Mostly the hours. I wanted more time with my family.

* Measured by us with a full 70-minute German lecture recording, on a PC with an Nvidia graphics card and the model already loaded. Without a graphics card it takes much longer. The download only happens the first time.

How it works

From interview to quotable transcript.

  1. Drop in your recordingThe file from your phone or voice recorder, audio or video. MP3, M4A, WAV and MP4 all work.
  2. Wait while your computer does the workThe first time, the speech recognition model downloads once. After that it starts from your browser's storage.
  3. Check and correctEvery line has a timestamp. Click it to hear that spot, and fix misheard words right in the text.
  4. Download as WordWith a timestamp before each paragraph, so you can cite quotes in your paper.

Privacy

The recording stays where it belongs.

Other services upload your recordings to their servers. With Stillscript, your own computer does the work. That's why we can't see, store or share your interviews, even if we wanted to.

FAQ

Quick answers.

How much does Stillscript cost?

Transcribing is free, with no per-minute pricing and no sign-up. Later we'll add Pro features for thesis work, like speaker detection and de-identification, as a pass with no subscription. Transcription stays free and unlimited.

How accurate is it?

Very accurate with clear speech. In our test with five minutes of a lecture, we counted four to five errors. Accents, echo or a poor microphone mean more errors. You fix them right in the text.

Does it work on a phone or tablet?

Yes, in a light mode for short recordings. It's slower and less accurate. For long interviews, use a laptop or desktop.

What about my IRB or ethics approval?

Your participants need to consent to being recorded. Because Stillscript processes everything on your computer, no third-party transcription service ever gets the audio. Check with your IRB or ethics committee what your consent form and data plan need to say.
